The Arc offers two paths for employment supports: Supported Employment, a service authorized through a managed care organization, and Vocational Rehabilitation, authorized by NC Vocational Rehabilitation.
Supported Employment
Supported Employment provides assistance, based on individual circumstances and need, to explore, seek, choose, acquire, maintain, increase and/or advance in competitive integrated employment.
Competitive integrated employment is an individual job in competitive or customized employment, or self-employment, in an integrated work setting in the general workforce for which an individual is compensated at or above the minimum wage.
This service is available to any person ages 16 and older for whom individualized, competitive integrated employment has not been achieved, and/or has been interrupted or intermittent.
People learn what they want and need to be successful before the first job application is created. Once employment has been offered, the Employment Support Specialist accompanies the new hire on the job, learning alongside of them so success can be ensured.
Community Rehabilitation Program
The Arc is contracted with NC Vocational Rehabilitation Services to provide both Supported Employment and Work Adjustment services in Davidson, Davie and Yadkin counties. Although the intended outcome is the same as for Supported Employment, services authorized through Vocational Rehabilitation do not require the intense, hands-on, long-term support offered by Supported Employment.
There may be circumstances when a person will benefit from Supported Employment when Vocational Rehabilitation services have maximized.
